Dreaming of a White Christmas

Hello all,

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with much food, lots of laughter, and many memories.

Today (Black Friday) truly begins the spreading of all the Christmas cheer.

It was snowing yesterday, which inspired me to take some pictures outside and really try to capture the essence of winter it in. I felt like the pictures had a dreamlike feel to them, and I couldn’t get the familiar  Christmas carol written by Irving Berlin out of my head.

“I’m dreaming of a white Christmas

Just like the ones I used to know

Where the treetops glisten,

And children listen

To hear sleigh bells in the snow.

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas

With every Christmas card I write

May your days be merry and bright

And may all your Christmases be white.”

So this song got me thinking:

What does it mean to really dream of a white Christmas?

Well, first off, part of dreaming of Christmas when the Christmas season is readily approaching could just be all the excitement coming through in your dreams.

Christmas in a dream is your subconscious telling you that you need a fresh start. It is also a symbol of happiness, family, comfort, and peace. Dreaming of Christmas means this new start may be a calm, peaceful new road for you to take.

White is generally a color associated with purity and innocence; therefore, dreaming of white snow means you either feel you are already experiencing or wish you could experience a new beginning, a rebirth, or a clean slate.

Seeing snow in a dream could mean a few things, one of them being that you feel neglected and alone in the cold. Or snow could symbolize a coldness of heart, a frigidness within yourself that you need to release and correct. Use the joy of the Christmas season and try to do something out of the kindness of your heart to let the warmth back in.

So a common theme here in dreaming of a white Christmas is REBIRTH.

Christmas, white, and snow are all symbolic of a need for a clean slate. If you are dreaming of a white Christmas, it may not just be the song stuck in your head. Maybe you need to step back and think about what aspects of your life could use a bit of calmness and warmness.

Stay warm!
